Well, my little boy refuses to stop growing up, Y’all. This year, do you know what he wanted most of all for his 7th birthday? A NEW ROOM. Because primarily what he does anymore is play basketball (so obviously he also wanted a new hoop), we thought it was actually a great idea because this would be a really great investment. I’m a firm believer in NOT buying toys just to buy toys, and he rarely ever plays with the ones he has. We told the family and friends who normally pitch in for birthdays that he wanted a newly done bedroom + a new basketball goal, and everyone was game! He had twin bunkbeds for many years, and get this, he refused to ever sleep on the top bunk! Within the last year he decided he wanted the beds taken apart, and he would just sleep in the twin bed, no bunk attached.
Thanks to Leesa, an amazing online mattress store, we were able to surprise him with a brand new (and NICE) full sized mattress for the bed frame we had picked out. It is so comfortable that I wish it was our bed, and when Pierson asked me recently if I could sleep with him, I promised I would make that happen this summer. (Sleep on a super soft and plush bed with my baby who isn’t a baby anymore?! Yes, PLEASE!) We got the mattress protector just in case (because seriously this is the nicest bed he’s ever going to own for a VERY long time…..)
My mom and dad, Pierson’s Mimi + Pa Pa, helped pitch in for his awesome new bedroom so we wanted to make sure they were included in the big reveal. Asa called Mimi on FaceTime and the look on Pierson’s face when we let him in was absolutely priceless. His sister was equally excited and she said, “For MY birthday, I’m going to get a new room JUST like Pierson!!” Ha ha, slow your roll, sister bear. But I do love it so we’ll see?
If you want links to the furniture items in his room, I will list them here for you:
-Bed with 3 drawers
-Bookcase Headboard
-5 Drawer Chest
-4 Shelf Bookcase
Most of the other wall art is from Hobby Lobby. This past school year the University of Louisville basketball team was super awesome and autographed the jersey that we decided to frame. And I’m not sure when I’ll ever switch out the poster sized prints in his colorful frames (me pregnant with Pierson and Pierson as a newborn). Let’s face it, I’m really not ready for him to grow up, even though he seems to think that HE is.
My loving husband assembled all of the furniture completely on his own, as well as decorated the shelves and arranged the setup. Not only does he cook, ladies, he’s also Superman ;) And it is the cutest thing ever that since getting his new room, Pierson now makes his bed EVERY single morning and is excited to do so. He arranges his stuffed animals and blankets exactly how HE wants to, and he keeps his floor and surfaces completely clean.
Word of advice? Somehow give your kiddo a room that they are proud of!! It is SO evident how excited he is about this and not just excited—he’s grateful! Which makes us feel so good about this investment and the work it took preparing for it.
Tell me about your kid’s bedroom. Did you let them pick paint colors (that’s one thing I won’t so readily allowing…….eeek) or the theme for it? Leave me a comment below, I would love to hear!
